Bungalow at Sidmouth

Bungalow at Sidmouth

Having been recommended to us by another Sidmouth client, I was called in to view this “potential filled” garden! The brief was to redesign the area with low maintenance a priority and no lawn whilst leaving the existing terrace untouched. Low maintenance does tend to conjure up images of great swathes of ground cover shrubs and of course this can work but it is not the only solution and neither is the prettiest.

The garden stretched East West so I designed it to incorporate a morning and an evening seating area. The most significant part of the design however, was the predominantly summer planting scheme. Once the clients realised that the only serious amount of work involved was to cut down much of it in winter and just sit back and enjoy it Spring, Summer and Autumn they were more than happy to proceed. Photographs show the site as was, through the construction stage and then only seven months later when in full bloom.
